Our client, a leading defence and aerospace organisation, is seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer / Scheduler to join a high-profile engineering programme supporting one of the UK's most advanced airborne defence platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a collaborative engineering team, working on a complex military aircraft programme where you'll play a key role in optimising manufacturing processes, improving production performance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

The Role

As an Industrial Engineer, you'll work closely with engineering, production, and leadership teams to enhance manufacturing efficiency and support the successful delivery of critical defence capability. This role combines industrial engineering principles with production planning and scheduling to ensure manufacturing operations are optimised and delivery objectives are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse and optimise production line balancing, capacity and manufacturing readiness.
  • Develop operational plans, including budgeting, forecasting, capacity planning and constraint analysis.
  • Support project planning, scheduling and production execution activities.
  • Assist with production recovery planning and shop floor workload management.
  • Conduct time studies and labour observations to establish standards and identify process improvements.
  • Identify manufacturing bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve throughput.
  • Carry out cost-benefit analysis to support operational decision-making.
  • Maintain and update visual management systems across the production environment.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to improve flow, reduce costs and increase production rates.
  • Ensure all activities are completed in line with company processes, quality standards and safety requirements.

About You

We're looking for an engineer who enjoys solving complex manufacturing challenges and thrives in a collaborative production environment. You'll ideally have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience within a manufacturing or production support engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Engineering methodologies, production planning or scheduling.
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, from shop floor technicians to senior leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • A strong focus on safety, quality and operational excellence.
