Bellshill, Scotland. I’m currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join an established engineering team working on complex high-voltage transmission and distribution projects. This is an excellent opportunity to design and deliver protection, control and automation systems for critical substation infrastructure. You’ll work closely with clients, utilities, contractors, manufacturers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop reliable and technically robust solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing protection and control systems for transformers, transmission lines, busbars and HV switchgear
- Developing protection philosophies, relay settings, control schematics and interlocking schemes
- Supporting SCADA and substation automation systems
- Producing technical drawings, specifications and engineering documentation
- Supporting protection coordination, fault analysis and power system studies
- Reviewing third-party designs and technical documentation
- Supporting FAT, SAT, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting activities
- Contributing to design reviews and multidisciplinary coordination
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in HV substation Protection & Control design
- Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and ANSI standards
- Understanding of IEC 61850 and modern substation communications
- Experience with software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, EPLAN, Helinks or similar
- The ability to produce and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills
Experience with UK utilities, relay configuration, SCADA, RTUs, FAT/SAT, testing and commissioning would be advantageous. Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional registration is also welcomed.
