An exciting opportunity for a Robotics Welding Technician to join a specialist manufacturing team working with cutting-edge Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technology. This role is focused on operating advanced multi-axis robotic welding systems to produce large-scale 3D printed metal components for high-value aerospace and defence applications. The successful candidate will combine fabrication and manufacturing knowledge with robotic process control, quality assurance, and continuous improvement activities.

Important: This is not a traditional hand-welding position. Candidates should have experience operating robotic, CNC, PLC-controlled, or automated manufacturing systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate multi-axis robotic welding cells used for WAAM manufacturing
  • Set up and monitor automated welding processes
  • Produce large-scale 3D metal printed components to specification
  • Monitor weld bead formation and build quality throughout production
  • Conduct visual inspections and quality checks on completed parts
  • Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions
  • Record and maintain manufacturing data, process parameters, and traceability records
  • Work closely with Engineering and Quality teams to optimise manufacturing processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the production environment
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong background in welding, fabrication, or metalworking environments
  • Experience operating CNC, PLC-controlled, robotic, or automated manufacturing equipment
  • Understanding of arc welding processes and welding metallurgy
  • Knowledge of ABB RAPID programming or similar robotic control systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality standards
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions and manufacturing documentation
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
