We're currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a Yard Operative / Steel Loader to join their busy and well-established steel manufacturing operation.

About the Role

Working a Monday to Thursday shift (4:00am – 4:00pm), you'll be responsible for the safe and efficient loading, unloading, and movement of structural steel throughout the yard.

You'll play a key role in supporting production by ensuring materials are handled accurately, safely, and in line with operational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload lorries using overhead cranes, forklifts, and side loaders.
  • Pick steel sections and plates for production machinery.
  • Read and interpret delivery notes and order documentation.
  • Load, unload, and stack steel onto shotblast machines.
  • Receive, organise, and dispatch steel materials efficiently.
  • Ensure materials are stored correctly to support production schedules.
  • Carry out manual handling duties safely where required.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
  • Follow all company health & safety procedures and site regulations at all times.
  • Required Skills
  • Experience within a steel, manufacturing, engineering, or heavy industrial environment (desirable).
  • Experience operating heavy plant or machinery is advantageous.
  • A basic understanding of steel products, including beams, plates, flats, and angles.
  • The ability to read delivery notes and work accurately from documentation.
  • A strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • A reliable, hardworking attitude with a willingness to learn.
  • Previous certifications or experience operating Overhead Cranes, Forklift Trucks, Side Loaders, or loading steel would be beneficial, but full training will be provided for the right candidate.
