We are seeking an experienced Protection & Substation Design Engineer with in-depth, hands-on knowledge of protection systems and electrical substation scheme design. The role reports directly to the Engineering Team Leader for Protection Systems and involves leading technical projects from design through to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical engineering projects, including customer kick-off meetings and delivery through commissioning
- Manage engineering scope, risks, and man-day budgets, providing regular project updates
- Analyse customer specifications and produce technical documentation
- Specify IEDs and software, ensuring compliance with safety standards
- Resolve technical issues and support site engineers remotely or on-site
- Lead FATs, SATs, and support major commissioning milestones
Essential Requirements
- BSc in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 5+ years’ experience in protection and electrical design engineering
- Strong knowledge of protection functions, electrical schemes, and cubicle design
- Experience designing and configuring protection relays and performing network studies
- Willingness to travel locally and internationally, with a valid driving licence
Desirable
- Experience with GE Substation Automation Solutions
- Strong automation and protection system knowledge (LV, MV & HV)
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, flexible environment
