We're looking for an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer with a strong background in electrical harness and cable assembly manufacturing to join a growing manufacturing engineering team supporting complex defence programmes. This is an opportunity to become the technical lead for electrical manufacturing processes, taking products from design through to full-rate production while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations. Working within a highly regulated aerospace and defence environment, you'll play a key role in introducing new products, improving existing manufacturing methods and ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency and reliability.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead manufacturing engineering activities for electrical harnesses and cable assemblies from design through to production.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring designs are successfully transitioned into manufacture.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes to improve quality, productivity and cost.
  • Create manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process flows and production controls.
  • Work closely with Design Engineering, Production and Quality teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Drive root cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the electrical manufacturing area.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace and defence manufacturing standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to production teams throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.

About You

You'll be an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with strong knowledge of electrical assembly and cable manufacturing within a regulated engineering environment. You'll ideally have:

  • Degree qualification in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience within aerospace, defence, automotive or another highly regulated manufacturing sector.
  • Proven experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing process development and continuous improvement.
  • Experience producing manufacturing documentation and process controls.
  • Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working within high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments.

Technical Knowledge

You'll have experience with many of the following:

  • Electrical harness manufacture
  • Cable assembly
  • Crimping
  • Soldering
  • Braiding
  • Potting
  • Cable routing and protection
  • Connector assembly and backshell integration
  • Manufacturing process development
  • CAD and manufacturing documentation
  • ERP/MRP systems
  • Configuration control

Knowledge of the following standards would be advantageous:

  • AS9100
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620
  • ESD Control
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • Six Sigma
  • APQP
  • PFMEA
  • Control Plans

Experience with automated wire processing, harness test equipment or customer audits would also be beneficial.

The Team

You'll join a growing Manufacturing Engineering function of around 40 engineers, supporting an expanding production operation. This is not a line management position. Instead, you'll become the technical authority for electrical manufacturing processes, providing expertise across the wider engineering and production teams. The role supports the manufacture of large, complex aerospace-standard cable assemblies and electrical harnesses used in advanced defence systems.

What's On Offer

  • 4-day working week (Monday-Thursday)
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Excellent pension and benefits package
  • Career progression within a global engineering organisation
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge defence programmes
  • Modern manufacturing facilities
  • Long-term career stability
  • Security Clearance: Applicants must be eligible to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance. Employment will commence subject to BPSS clearance.
