This is an exciting time to join MandM as we take our initial steps on our sustainability journey. We are at the early stages of establishing our roadmap, making this role essential for building solid foundations, improving data capture, and establishing core regulatory compliance processes. Reporting directly to the Head of Compliance, you will oversee day-to-day sustainability data streams with a clear operational focus on Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Scope 3 carbon reporting—while managing our Sustainability Data Analyst. Working closely with internal departments and our parent company's ESG leadership, this role offers a great opportunity to build essential processes from the ground up, establish practical governance, and support our growth as a business.

MandM is one of the biggest employers in Herefordshire and one of Europe’s leading online, off-price retailers, selling branded Fashion, Sport & Outdoor products for Men, Women and Children. We offer our customers fantastic value by partnering with companies who we have built long term relationships with, enabling us to offer our customers big household names and up-and-coming brands, giving fantastic value all year round. We are located in the heart of Hereford City Centre in our brand new, state of the art office. The modern, stylish workspace was designed to encourage collaborative working, teamwork and creativity - everything that MandM is all about.

The Sustainability Manager coordinates cross-functional sustainability data collection, regulatory reporting, and compliance requirements. You will focus on building robust data capture processes, ensuring internal stakeholder accountability, and delivering accurate reporting across our UK and European operations.

  • Data Management & Operational Setup: Refine data capture processes to deliver increasing granularity, transparency, and audit-ready KPI reporting. Project manage multi-jurisdictional Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) reporting alongside our external delivery partner. Drive cross-functional coordination of sustainability data streams, embedding clear data accountability across Operations, Buying, IT, and Finance.
  • Regulatory Reporting & Governance: Oversee core environmental compliance across UK and European markets, translating incoming legislation into practical operational workflows. Lead the collection and delivery of Scope 3 carbon data across MandM's supply chain and value chain. Provide grounded advice to ensure sustainability claims are fully substantiated and protect the business against greenwashing risks. Support sustainability risk assessments, due diligence, and process documentation within the broader Compliance function.
  • Stakeholder & Group Collaboration: Serve as the key point of contact for sustainability matters within MandM, building collaborative relationships across internal teams. Build a strong working relationship with our parent company, Heartland, attending regular meetings with the Group ESG Controller and owning MandM's input for consolidated group reporting. Line manage, mentor, and empower the Sustainability Data Analyst.

What we’re looking for:

  • Regulatory & Compliance Background: Hands-on experience in ESG regulatory compliance or operational reporting, ideally within fashion, retail, FMCG, or complex supply chains.
  • Carbon & EPR Capability: Practical experience with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) reporting, Scope 3 carbon data collection, or Environmental Management Systems.
  • Cross-Functional Relationship Building: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage stakeholders across all levels and drive operational accountability.
  • Data & Commercial Acumen: High attention to detail with strong analytical skills to translate complex data into clear, actionable business reporting.
  • Pragmatic & Team-Minded: Experienced in mentoring or managing direct reports, paired with a collaborative attitude to support broader compliance initiatives.

Establish fundamental data and compliance processes during the early stages of our sustainability roadmap. Work closely with senior compliance stakeholders and Heartland group leads in a role with real scope to grow.

At MandM, our employees are driven by a shared commitment to excellence and making a real impact in the industry. We pride ourselves on upholding these core values in everything we do: Integrity, Teamwork, Accountability, Entrepreneurial approach.
