We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer - Automation role for an Electrical & Electronic Manufacturing company based in London. It is a global company with a workforce of 5000 worldwide and is experiencing strong revenue growth. We are looking for an exceptional mechanical engineer to join our team and help us solve challenging technical issues.
Responsibilities
- Developing concepts and prototyping hardware (e.g. for new robot arm layout or conveyor systems).
- Design-for-manufacture of whole machine subsystems, to getting spanners out and building and testing machines.
- Designing, building, and testing prototypes; gathering requirements from the rest of the team; generating manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and other documentation; contributing to FMEAs; drawing control; writing test documentation.
- Technical project management of complex automation systems.
- The ability to flex quality and speed: from quick proof‑of‑concept work to “right-first-time” design for manufacture, assembly, and maintenance.
- Proficiency in Solidworks.
Qualifications
- HND or degree qualified.
- Tolerance analysis skills & structural FEA would be beneficial.
- Dynamics simulation and thermal analysis skills would be beneficial.
Optional / Desirable Requirements
- Desirable characteristics: 3-10 years experience in automation machinery design, ideally for high volume production.
- Bonus points: You have lived or worked in China, and have experience working in a contract manufacturing environment.
- Can speak Mandarin.
