Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is looking for an Assistant People & Culture Manager to join our People & Culture team on a maternity cover for 12 months.
About The Job
Based at the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair within the People & Culture Department in London, the Assistant People & Culture Manager is responsible for the smooth running of the People & Culture department. Acting as an ambassador for the brand and delivering a warm and personalised experience to our colleagues. The Assistant People & Culture Manager reports to the Head of People & Culture.
As Assistant People & Culture Manager, you will be responsible for the following duties:
- To provide specialised People & Culture support (coaching, counselling, performance management etc) to Department Heads and colleagues in order to achieve the hotel strategic business objectives.
- To adhere to date with all UK & European Legislation relating to People & Culture.
- To assist in managing and administering Disciplinary & Grievance procedures in conjunction with the Head of People & Culture.
- Constantly strives to improve employee retention.
- Brings issues to the attention of the Head of People & Culture as necessary.
- Manages department’s controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
- Responsible for creating and supervising PR’s and the department’s budget tracker with the rest of the team.
- To manage and maintain headcounts, ensuring that they are in line with agreed departmental headcount budgets through monthly forecast meetings.
- To manage all vacancies and recruitment function in conjunction with the People & Culture Officer, in line with budget requirements, reviewing where necessary in line with operational needs.
- Assist in managing the application and administration of work permits.
- To support in managing all personnel procedures with regard to starters, transfers, promotions and variations plus leavers.
- To be readily available for counselling with empathetic, open communication ensuring reliability and confidentiality.
- To conduct exit interviews and analyse exit interview data.
- Celebrates successes and publicly recognises the contributions of team members; ensures recognition is taking place across areas of responsibility.
- Maintains ongoing employee recognition programmes.
As Assistant People & Culture Manager, we expect from you:

- Previous experience within a similar role in a luxury five-star environment preferable.
- The role is predominantly Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, but flexibility is required where applicable.
