School Nurse Specialist Practitioner

This School Nurse post is a great opportunity for personal and professional development. You will develop excellent leadership skills in the role as you will be providing clinical leadership support and professional direction to Band 5 Community Staff Nurses and Band 4 Associate Nurses as they work to achieve competency in a range of skills. As a service we are offering a range of development opportunities at Band 7 as we explore different ways of working, as part of a review of the service, so there are great opportunities for career development.

Main duties of the job

• To provide clinical leadership support and professional direction.
• Be proactive in the identification of service development in consultation with Team Leads and Heads of Service and participate in developing, monitoring, and evaluating quality standards within the service.
• To support the teams in the assessment, allocation, and response to requests for advice and support.
• Maintain professional standards of record keeping and storage in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) guidelines, Data Protection Act and MFT policies and procedures.
• Recognises the importance of accurate and timely record keeping and can maintain confidential records and information.
• Keeps an accurate and up to date diary on EMIS and follows Trust policy regarding confidential information.
• To liaise with teaching staff as appropriate to ensure an effective communication system.

Person Specification

Education and Professional Qualifications

• First level Registered Nurse (degree level) (NMC register)
• Evidence of post-registration education and training HE level 6
• Practice Assessor/Supervisor competent
• Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification (SCPHN)

Experience

• Demonstrable evidence of professional development
• Demonstrable and considerable experience working within the safeguarding children arena
• Demonstrable or relevant experience in delivering health promotion and health education programmes

Skills

• Evidence of using evidence-based practice and appraising standards, providing clinical direction and support for staff
• Demonstrates leadership skills and understanding of professional responsibilities within the team
• Able to establish and maintain key relationships with colleagues and other disciplines both internally and externally
• Effective communication skills both written and verbal
• Demonstrate the ability to facilitate and support implementation of service development within a team

Knowledge and Understanding

• Detailed knowledge of health and social care policy relating to children\\\’s services including safeguarding
• Detailed knowledge of national and local strategies relating to the school nursing service
• Detailed knowledge of Public Health initiatives for children and young people

Other requirements

• IT skills – the ability to use Microsoft packages
• Ability to access information using internet and IT skills
• Willing to travel city wide for work purposes
• Flexible and adaptable to changing needs in the service
• Respects the values, culture and beliefs held by others
