Overview

Airways Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Manchester Airways Service. 12 month secondment or fixed term position. The service investigates and treats patients with breathlessness and laryngeal sensitivity caused by throat and upper chest issues or disturbances of breathing patterns. Common conditions include Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction (ILO), Cough Hypersensitivity and Breathing Pattern Disorder. It is a tertiary level, multi-disciplinary service with referrals from GPs and hospital consultants regionally and nationally.

To provide high quality assessment and treatment of upper airway dysfunction and complex breathlessness, taking responsibility for complex cases including Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction and related airway conditions. To support the MDT in providing evidenced-based Speech and Language Therapy assessment, treatment and intervention to patients and their carers. To work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to provide specialised programmes of care for patients on the caseload and provide specialist input into case conferences, regional MDT meetings and outpatient clinics as appropriate. To support teaching, research, audit and service development within the respiratory department. Supervision will be provided within the role as applicable.

  • Support teaching, research, audit and service development within the respiratory department.
  • Receive supervision applicable to the role.
