The Role
We’re looking for a Clinical Specialist MSK MRI Radiographer to join our team at the Club. The successful candidate will provide leadership when needed, manage workload alongside colleagues, and offer specialist MRI scanning expertise and guidance to the medical team.
This role will play a crucial part in acquiring high-quality images to support the diagnosis and management of injuries sustained by Manchester United’s Men’s, Women’s, and Academy players. Your technical expertise in performing scans to the highest standard will directly contribute to the well-being and performance of our athletes, helping them recover swiftly and return to the pitch stronger than ever.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all MRI and CT scans requested by MUFC medical staff to the highest professional standard.
- Collaborate with the Club’s consultant radiologists and medical team to ensure optimal scan quality and appropriate imaging protocols.
- Ensure accurate patient positioning and use of scanning techniques to produce diagnostic images.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of MRI/CT equipment, safety protocols, and best practices in MSK imaging.
- Manage and lead the safe transfer and storage of images between PACS, hospitals, and specialists.
- Complete all relevant administration, fault reporting, and stock control related to scanning equipment, specifically working with Canon.
- Participate in and, where appropriate, lead audits related to the radiography service and Canon equipment performance.
- Assist with the induction and training of new radiography staff and help develop on-call rotas where required.
- Communicate effectively with the wider medical team to ensure a smooth-running imaging service.
- Take responsibility for maintaining high standards of governance, including audits, CPD, and departmental meetings.
The Person
- Degree in Radiography from an accredited institution with appropriate registration (e.g., HCPC registered).
- Specialist training or significant experience in musculoskeletal MRI/CT scanning, ideally in a sports medicine or high-performance environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of MSK scanning techniques and safe practice.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to liaise with radiologists and the wider medical team.
- Commitment to patient care and athlete well-being.
- Dedication to ongoing professional development and staying current with advancements in radiography techniques and equipment.
- Significant experience working in an elite sports or similar high-performance medical setting is highly desirable.
- Ability to multitask and work to strict deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
- Methodical approach, excellent organisation, and complete discretion.
- Positive, proactive attitude with a calm approach under pressure.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong IT literacy relevant to radiography systems and image management.
