The Role
The Player Support Officer (PSO) ensures players and their families receive exceptional support throughout their time at Manchester United. This role involves delivering a wide range of wellbeing and support services, managing transfers and relocations, handling visa applications, providing day-to-day player and family support, coordinating match-day family activities, and assisting with special projects. The PSO serves as a primary point of contact for players and their families, ensuring an elite level of support is consistently delivered.
Key Responsibilities
- Transfers and Relocations: Coordinate inbound and outbound transfers and relocations for players, ensuring all wellbeing and logistical details are efficiently managed. Provide comprehensive relocation support, including housing, transportation, and local area orientation.
- Employment Visas: Assist with the preparation and submission of employment visa applications for players and their families. Ensure all documentation is complete and compliant with relevant immigration regulations.
- Translation Support: Provide translation services for players and their families as needed, ensuring effective communication and understanding.
- Day-to-Day Player Support: Address and resolve any issues players may encounter in their daily lives, enabling them to focus on performance. Serve as a key contact for players regarding personal or professional concerns.
- Matchday Operations: Oversee players\’ lounges and boxes on matchdays, ensuring a comfortable, well-organised environment. Coordinate logistics and family support for European away games, including travel arrangements and accommodation.
- Special Projects: Contribute to and support initiatives aimed at enhancing player support and performance.
- Family Support and Liaison: Provide day-to-day support to players’ families, assisting them in settling in and accessing solutions as needed. Facilitate family medical support and access to necessary healthcare services.
The Person
- Previous experience in player support, customer service, or an administrative role within the sports industry is preferred.
- Experience in roles such as athlete liaison, performance lifestyle advisor, or player/athlete care is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly and maintain confidentiality.
- Familiarity with visa application processes and relocation logistics.
- Proactive, adaptable, and solution-focused.
- High level of empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
- Passion for sports and a genuine interest in player wellbeing.
- Willingness to travel, including international trips for European away games.
- Flexibility to work on matchdays, evenings, and weekends as required.
