The Role
This role is central to rebuilding demand for our Stadium Tour and Museum and into a world-class visitor experience for people who travel from around the world to immerse themselves in the history, heritage and culture of Manchester United. In a competitive market, Manchester United must modernise its approach, stay ahead in technology, and revitalise how one of the strongest collections of football artefacts is presented and cared for.
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the Museum & Tour with a clear mandate to rebuild the teams, structures and standards required for a best-in-class attraction.
- Redesign and develop the workforce, establishing new expectations, pathways for progression and a high-performance culture.
- Where standards fall short, apply processes to reset expectations and protect service quality.
- Rebuild staffing models to ensure correct and costed resource levels.
- Manage demand proactively, identify overspends early and course-correct to deliver operational and financial discipline.
- Work with the Curatorial team to refresh the exhibition strategy, acquiring new artefacts, modernising displays and planning events that maximise impact and return on investment.
- Drive innovation throughout the rebuild, introducing new technologies, experiences and processes that elevate visitor satisfaction while improving operational efficiency.
- Develop processes to track guest feedback, measure quality of delivery and improve the overall visitor experience.
- Strengthen the customer-experience framework by working closely with Customer Care to resolve issues quickly, identify systemic causes and embed fixes into the rebuild plan.
- Commit to ongoing professional development through the Performance and Development Review Policy, role-modelling continuous improvement throughout the rebuild.
The Person We Are Looking For
- Proven experience managing, or acting as deputy within, a visitor attraction, museum, heritage site, gallery, or similar public-facing environment.
- Confident leading day-to-day operations in a fast-paced, high-footfall setting.
- Strong track record of developing teams, rebuilding culture, and resetting performance standards.
- Experience implementing new technologies / product offerings within a visitor attraction setting (e.g. virtual / augmented reality), museum renovations.
- Able to manage challenging conversations, set clear expectations and drive accountability.
