At Manchester United, we believe that excellence on the pitch starts with excellence off the pitch. Our team thrives in a high‑performance environment, united by a shared passion for success. We aim to elevate the standard of performance through collaboration and continuous growth, creating a space where everyone can contribute their best to our common goals.

The Role

You’ll be part of the Data & AI Team, playing a key role in the club’s transformation into a fully data‑driven organisation. The team delivers powerful insights, builds trusted data products and operates modern data platforms that enable better decisions and success on and off the pitch. We’re looking for a Senior Football Data Analyst to play a key part in this transformation. In this role, you will deliver data insights across the matchday calendar, work closely with coaches and performance video analysts across the men’s first team, women’s first team and academy to identify trends, deliver pre‑ and post‑match analysis, executive‑level performance reporting and structured performance reviews. This role is the primary analytical link between coaching staff and the wider data programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce pre‑ and post‑match analysis reports, including opponent profiling and performance summaries.
  • Support the matchday calendar across all competitions, with analysis outputs timed to coaching workflows across the men’s first team, women’s first team and academy.
  • Deliver executive‑level performance reporting to senior football and club leadership.
  • Contribute to structured performance reviews across players, units and opponents.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with coaching and analysis staff.
  • Explore and interpret raw event data to surface insights, collaborating with coaches and video analysts to test hypotheses.
  • Proactively generate insights to inform decision making in the performance space.
  • Show flexibility to work weekends and evenings in line with the matchday calendar, with time off in lieu provided accordingly.

The Person

  • Educated to degree level or above in a STEM subject, or equivalent experience.
  • 1–2 years of experience in football analytics or elite sport performance.
  • Demonstrable ability to work with raw football event data independently – querying, aggregating and interpreting without relying on pre‑built dashboards.
  • Proficiency in SQL, comfortable writing queries to answer open‑ended football questions.
  • Comfortable using Python for data analysis and exploration.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, particularly when working with large datasets and producing outputs for senior audiences.
  • Strong analytical thinking with the ability to translate data into clear, football‑relevant insight.
  • Confident communicating findings to both technical colleagues and non‑technical football staff.
  • Skilled in data visualisation and presentation with a strong understanding of football tactics and performance metrics.
  • Curious and self‑motivated approach to football data – someone who explores beyond the ask.

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Exposure to event data providers.

What We Offer

  • Annual incentive scheme.
  • Wellness Support with access to mental health resources, digital health checks and nutritionists through Aviva Digicare+.
  • Workplace Exclusive Discounts through our United Rewards platform, giving you access to exclusive deals from the club and partners.
  • Gym Facilities in our onsite locations and opportunities for regular social events and team‑building activities.
  • Enhanced family Leave Benefits and an opportunity to purchase additional holiday days.
  • Enhanced Career Development with access to professional learning platforms like LinkedIn Learning and internal training programmes.
  • A Supportive Work Environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion, and individual growth.
