The Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications and Advocacy, this role helps shape how Manchester United tells its corporate and commercial story. From partnerships and digital products to fan engagement and community campaigns, you’ll drive proactive and reactive comms across media and key stakeholders in a fast-paced, high-profile environment. It’s a standout opportunity to elevate the narrative behind our business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the development and delivery of an effective corporate communications strategy.
  • Developing and delivering key messages for media and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting senior colleagues with issues management and narrative development.
  • Cultivating and managing relations with the media and other stakeholders.
  • Developing and executing sophisticated and effective PR campaigns and activations for the club and its partners.
  • Planning and delivering public-facing club events.
  • Drafting of written materials, including press releases, articles, speeches, letters, and messaging.
  • Working across all departments of the club to support their communication needs, and with the Manchester United Foundation comms team to amplify their PR activity.
  • Close co-operation with our commercial, content and brand teams to help ensure that all forms of club communication are consistent with our strategic objectives, values and tone of voice.
  • Close co-operation with our football comms team to ensure alignment between football and corporate narratives; while this role will be mostly focused on off-field issues, it will involve occasional support for football comms and work with our club legends and ambassadors.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Excellent abilities in written and verbal communications, with flair, creativity, and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Relevant professional experience in communications, public relations and/or media.
  • Excellent knowledge of the media landscape, preferably including football and sports business; experience working with international media also an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of social media, and experience of using media monitoring tools.
  • Proven ability to engage with media to pitch stories and secure positive media coverage.
  • Experience in compiling media coverage reports and analysis, and in maintaining contacts databases.
  • Experience in public affairs, stakeholder relations and events management all advantages.
  • Ability to work and collaborate across departments in a complex organisation, and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders.
  • Experience of working in the sports, entertainment or leisure industries an advantage, but strong candidates from other backgrounds will also be considered.
  • High standards, strong work ethic, resilience, and a positive and collaborative mindset all essential.
