The Role

As a key member of the Finance team, the Management Accountant will play a pivotal role in supporting the Director of Finance & Compliance and wider Finance Team.

This role goes beyond traditional accounting responsibilities, partnering with budget holders and colleagues across the organisation to provide insightful financial guidance, strengthen budget management, and support informed decision-making at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monthly management accounts (including detailed commentary)
  • P&L forecasting by department
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Manual journals
  • Managing and improving month end timetable and close
  • Supporting and training other team members
  • Reviewing contracts and leases to ensure alignment with FRS102
  • Providing financial support for large projects such as Legends matches
  • Providing analysis of income and expenditure, including donations and grants
  • Support with grant applications and reporting
  • Budget preparation and consolidation
  • Working collaboratively with the Director of Finance & Compliance, Finance Team and budget holders across the Foundation to deliver, interpret and challenge the departmental budgets
  • Assist in the production of annual financial statutory accounts by: preparing the audit backup information, assisting with statutory accounts production, liaising with auditors on queries, Providing support with system improvements and implementation
  • Support with preparation of Finance packs provided to Board
  • From time to time, you may be asked to undertake other duties appropriate to the position, as reasonably required by the MUF Executive Management Team.

The Person

  • Qualified accountant with experience in a broad range of accounting activities, preferably in a charity environment
  • Sound understanding of the Charity SORP and FRS102
  • Experience of complex system implementations
  • Ability to demonstrate strong analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure and to work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Efficient and effective in their work
  • Be computer literate, familiar with Microsoft office or similar packages, advanced excel skills essential.
  • Strong business acumen and partnering skills, with ability to effectively challenge and influence business stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage relationships with colleagues at all levels
