About the Role

Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is seeking a Project Manager to join its Campus Development Team. The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the university's strategic agenda and help to shape the future of our vibrant and growing campus.

As a Project Manager, you will lead small to medium-sized projects across our diverse estate, taking full ownership from initiation through to handover. Using best-practice processes, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to a high quality. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage risks, and keep stakeholders informed throughout, ensuring every project supports the University's strategic goals and sustainability commitments. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to an ambitious estates investment plan while supporting the ongoing delivery of our planned maintenance programme.

About You

We are seeking a candidate with a proven track record of managing construction projects within higher education or similarly complex environments. You will be able to demonstrate strong leadership, clear communication, and effective stakeholder management skills. Candidates should have in-depth knowledge of construction project management best practice and relevant legislation. We also expect applicants to hold a relevant professional qualification or be actively working towards chartership.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will manage the planning and execution of complex, multi-stakeholder projects, monitoring progress, controlling budgets, and mitigating risks throughout the project lifecycle. You will appoint and oversee multidisciplinary design and delivery teams while working closely with academic departments, professional services, and external consultants and contractors. In addition, you will ensure full compliance with health and safety requirements, sustainability standards, and all relevant planning and regulatory obligations.

Why Join Us?

At Manchester Metropolitan University, we're investing in a world class campus and looking for talented professionals to help bring that vision to life. You'll enjoy:

  • A dynamic and inclusive working environment.
  • Generous holiday entitlement and pension scheme.
  • Opportunities for continued professional development.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • Excellent rewards and benefits package.

To apply:

Applicants are required to submit a CV and a covering letter as part of their application. In addition, candidates should provide a concise and specific summary of relevant experience, presented as case studies demonstrating delivery of planned maintenance and refurbishment projects with values under £1m.

Case studies should:

  • Project overview
  • Approach taken
  • Outcomes achieved
  • Lessons learned

This experience summary should be no more than two pages in length. You can upload this along with your covering letter. Please note that only applications which fully adhere to the above requirements will be considered.

We value a diverse workforce for the innovation and diversity of thought it brings and welcome applications from all local and international communities, including Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, disabled people, and LGBTQ+ individuals. If you require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process or in your role, please let us know so we can provide appropriate support. Our commitment to inclusivity includes mentoring programmes, accessibility resources, and professional development opportunities to empower and support underrepresented groups. Manchester Met is a Disability Confident Leader and, under this scheme, aims to offer an interview to disabled people who apply for the role and meet the essential criteria as listed in the attached Job Description for that vacancy.
