The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. This role is for up to 5 weeks\β worth of teaching on the Level 6 undergraduate unit Language and Social Justice, to take place in Semester 2 of the 2025-2026 academic session. This teaching role is suitable for a Graduate Teaching Assistant. The post-holder will work closely with the unit leader, Dr Ian Cushing, and support will be given where needed. Expertise in language ideologies, educational linguistics, and the critical sociology of education is particularly welcomed. Teaching is for 3 hours a week (one session lasting 2 hours; one session lasting 1 hour). Payment includes an hour\βs worth of preparation time for each hour taught.
Required Qualifications
- Teaching experience in a higher education setting, ideally on language/linguistics programmes or related cognate disciplines;
- A student-centred approach to higher education teaching;
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills;
- Expert knowledge of research related to language attitudes and language ideologies;
- The ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet objectives;
- The ability to use initiative when dealing with a wide range of issues and problems;
- A degree or appropriate equivalent experience in your subject area.
Desirable
- Expertise in language ideologies, educational linguistics, and the critical sociology of education.
