We are recruiting two exciting Skills Coach roles to join our growing Apprenticeship Unit at Manchester Metropolitan University. These roles sit within a dynamic, industry-focused team supporting our award-winning Digital Degree Apprenticeship programmes. We welcome applications for full-time, part-time, and job-share arrangements. If you are interested in a fractional role, please state this clearly in your application. Experience directly related to the specialism is desirable; however, we also welcome candidates from other fields with strong leadership or management experience.
About the role
As a Skills Coach, you will work closely with apprentices, employers, and academic colleagues across the University. You will act as a key point of contact, providing coaching, guidance, and ongoing support to ensure apprentices succeed in the workplace and on programme. You will:
- Support apprentices throughout their learning journey
- Monitor progress against apprenticeship standards
- Prepare learners for End Point Assessment
- Build and maintain strong employer relationships
- Ensure apprentices are given meaningful opportunities to develop and demonstrate competence in the workplace
Programmes include:
- Digital & Technology Solutions Professional
- Digital & Technology Solutions Specialist
- Digital User Experience
- Creative Digital Design Professional
Typically, you will:
- Conduct reviews with apprentices and their line managers predominantly online, but also in the workplace, building productive relationships with both apprentice and employer and identifying any emerging issues at an early stage, providing interventions where required.
- Provide the first point of contact for both apprentices and for line managers and mentors in the workplace keeping them informed of learner progress.
- Coach the learners in developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the apprenticeship standard and help them to evidence their competence in an e‑portfolio.
- Conduct Skills Workshops, to prepare the apprentice for the End Point Assessment.
- Provide ongoing pastoral support to apprentices as their Personal Tutor, referring to Student Services where necessary.
- Liaise with academic teams and support students with their assignments, in particular the workplace projects.
- Represent the University in the workplace and provide information, advice and guidance.
The ideal candidate should have experience in:
- Teaching/assessing students, apprentices or trainees
- Providing ongoing pastoral support
- Working within the digital sector
- Developing positive and successful relationships with employers
