Overview: The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. This role will provide support in the development of an impact case-study about research on the history of firearms. You will assist with the following projects:

  • Production of a web resource on the history of firearms.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of media/social media coverage related to the release of Prof. Catherine Fletcher's book The Firearm Revolution.
  • Delivery of a workshop at the Royal Armouries event 'Weapons in Society' on creative histories of warfare.
  • Delivery of a Take Your Research Public course in June 2026, and collating evidence of feedback from this and prior runs.

Eligibility: This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements:

  • Familiarity with history, either through current study or strong evidence of personal interest.
  • Familiarity with common software packages (training on specific software will be provided).
  • Confidence in dealing with external partners in a professional manner.
  • Good level of personal organisation.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • An interest in the history of arms and armour, and in public engagement with history, is desirable.
