Overview
The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. We are looking for students to assist with international students attending pre‑sessional English course. This role will be for 12 hours per week, split Monday - Friday, from Monday 15th June to Friday 28th August 2026.
Pre‑sessional Courses
Pre‑sessional English students are international students who are studying English and academic skills before their chosen degree courses (mostly postgraduate) at Manchester Met. There will be approximately 50 students on our on‑campus courses this summer studying these full‑time intensive programmes.
Responsibilities
- Running a weekly homework club (space for students to work independently with minor assistance).
- Running a weekly conversation club (materials provided).
- Providing support/guidance for any general university related issues.
- Offering signposting to the relevant department of the university to deal with any queries or issues.
- Accompanying students on the end of course trip.
- Providing non‑academic support to students, including giving Manchester travel and shopping advice, advising on social activities, and helping to book events for the students.
- Enjoy helping our students with their pastoral needs and fostering a sense of community and support within the cohort.
- Attending the end‑of‑term trip on Thursday 27th August for a full day.
Hours of work: 12 hours per week. Dates: 15 June 2026 to 28 August 2026.

- Excellent command of English language (minimum C1 CEFR level).
- Good organisational skills.
- Ability to assist students find services they need at MMU.
- Enjoy supporting and assisting international students.
- Good knowledge of Manchester.
- An understanding of academic skills required of students at Manchester Met.
- An understanding of the needs of international students in higher education in the UK.
