Thinking about a change from industry?
If you're an experienced industry professional who enjoys mentoring colleagues, are a SME in your technical area, and want to explore teaching as a career option, this could be your next step.
At Manchester Metropolitan University, you'll have the opportunity to shape the next generation of IT professionals, by bringing your real‑world experience into a modern, industry‑focused learning environment.

- Share your expertise – turn your experience into meaningful teaching and mentoring
- Structured pathways to progression from Lecturer to Professor through our Education, Pedagogy, and Citizenship (EPC) pathway.
- Support to transition – we'll help you develop as an educator, even if you've never taught before
Our Commitment to You

- Opportunities to stay connected with the industry
- A supportive and collaborative working culture
- If you're coming from industry, we will support you in gaining teaching qualifications and developing your academic career

As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer
You'll design and deliver engaging, practical teaching across Levels 3–7 (foundation to postgraduate), including our highly regarded degree apprenticeships.
This isn't purely theoretical teaching—you'll:
- Teach modern practices in your tech areas (e.g. Ethical Hacking, Malware Analysis & Reverse Engineering, InfoSec, Cryptography, Secure Coding, Threat Intelligence)
- Work with apprentices employed in industry, bringing real‑world challenges into the classroom
- Design hands‑on projects and coding‑based learning experiences
- Help students build the skills employers actually need
You'll be part of a collaborative academic team that values innovation, industry relevance, and student success.
