Manchester Fashion Institute is looking for an enthusiastic and technically skilled Technical Officer to join our technical team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting teaching, research and enterprise activities within one of the UK's leading fashion schools.

In this role you will

  • Provide specialist technical support across our fashion workshops and studios.
  • Deliver inductions, demonstrations and practical training on industry-standard equipment, software and digital technologies.
  • Support teaching in garment construction, manual and digital pattern cutting, Gerber, CLO3D, Adobe Creative Suite, AI and other emerging fashion technologies.
  • Guide students in the safe and effective use of specialist equipment while supporting practical sessions and project work.
  • Lead on health and safety within designated workshop areas, including risk assessments, equipment checks and safe working practices.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider technical team to continually develop and improve our technical services.

About you

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges and takes pride in supporting others to succeed.

You'll be organised, approachable and able to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.

You will also bring

  • A degree in Fashion Design (or a related subject) or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong skills and experience in industry-standard garment construction, pattern cutting and digital fashion technologies.
  • Experience using Gerber, Lectra, CLO3D, Adobe Creative Suite and AI technologies relevant to fashion.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and customer service skills, ideally with experience supporting learners.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement and professional development, with a genuine enthusiasm for learning new skills and embracing emerging technologies.
