We are looking for a Lecturer in Fashion Design to join our dynamic and growing team. The successful candidate will contribute to the students' educational journey, bringing experience, skills and knowledge to inspire the next generation of fashion talent for an ever-changing industry.

About the role

We seek a Lecturer in Fashion Design to contribute to teaching and student experience across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will have knowledge and experience of contemporary fashion and/or broader design practices, working with directional design practitioners, creating original designs using a holistic design-based skillset. You will be an expert in your field whose teaching practice is informed by either your industry experience, your expanding body of published research or practice-based research which underpins sustainable design practice.

Drawing on your experience/industry contacts, you will support students to engage with collaborative, interdisciplinary and real-world learning opportunities. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the research and/or knowledge exchange activities of the department, for example by producing high quality research outputs and developing funding bids or demonstrating an interest in developing expertise and innovation in the delivery of teaching and/or student experience.

About you

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of teaching Fashion Design in Higher Education
  • A good first degree together with a PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualifications.
  • Substantial experience working with directional design practitioners plus a future facing skillset that understands contemporary fashion in support of sustainable design practice

Desirable:

  • A PGCE, Certificate of Education, PGCLTHE or membership of the Higher Education Academy (or commitment to obtain within three years of appointment).
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies, demonstrating professional standing.
  • Successfully publish results of research to the REF, in peer reviewed journals or monographs, or publish/exhibit professional practice

This is a 12-month fixed term maternity cover.
