Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of English to join our large and highly successful department. This is a full time, fixed term contract for one year from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026, to cover maternity leave. For the appropriate candidate, however, we may also be able to offer a part time, fixed term contract for the same time period. This can be discussed at interview.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and challenging English teaching to a lively, talented pupil cohort.
  • Provide enriching lessons with a focus on developing literary knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Support academic rigour and scholarship within the English department.
  • Possibly teach A-level English Literature for an appropriate candidate.
  • Utilise opportunities to incorporate public speaking or debating activities, where applicable.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Excellent academic qualifications and a passion for literature.
  • A desire to promote academic rigour and scholarship in students.
  • Experience may range from many years of teaching to early career/newly qualified teachers.
  • Experience or willingness to contribute to A-level English Literature teaching may be available for the right candidate.
  • Experience of public speaking or debating skills would be advantageous.
