- To support and supervise students using the library facilities and resources in study sessions, reading for pleasure sessions and at other times during the School day.
- To conduct general house-keeping duties such as, issuing and returning items, ordering, cataloguing and processing new stock, using Accessit - the library management system.
- To liaise with Departmental staff.
- To have an awareness of current developments in the information and literary sector.
- To encourage and promote reading for pleasure.
- To deputise for the Senior Librarian in their absence.
- To perform any other duties within the general nature of the post by arrangement with the Senior Librarian
- To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
Person Specification
- Familiarity in working with School children or students up to the age of 18 would be advantageous.
- Experience in working in a School library / learning resource centre is desirable.
- Knowledge of fiction authors and a good basic general knowledge is desirable.
- Confidence to discipline and ability to diffuse difficult situations.
- Friendly and approachable persona.
Essential Skills
- Experience of working in a library and familiarity of using web-based resources.
- Effective inter-personal skills.
- Excellent communication skills - both spoken and written.
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Ability to follow instructions and also to use initiative.
- Sound knowledge of Libraries including cataloguing and classification.
