Job Description: Data Scientists report to the Head of Data Science and lead the programme of dataset utilisation to the agency. They work with senior managers and the Executive team to set priorities and conceptualise, build and deliver the way for machine learning, data insights, and AI utilisation.
Core Responsibilities:
- Programming in Python and SQL to build scalable data products.
- Apply a range of data science techniques and keep current with industry trends.
- Influence stakeholders to promote MCA data strategy and data skills.
- Work independently to deliver wide‑range data science and visualisation projects using Agile techniques.
- Create compelling insights, present data, and guide stakeholders through data journeys.
Person Specification:
- Experience and knowledge of programming (Python, SQL), data science techniques, and applied statistics.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and build relationships.
- Experience developing complex solutions using Databricks, PySpark, and working out loud.
- Capability to work independently or as part of a team to deliver data science and visualisation projects.
Additional Information: The role is part of the Government Digital and Data profession and utilises an enhanced Capability‑Based Pay Framework with a Digital and Data allowance. Base pay is £44,241. Digital and Data allowance up to £14,756, based on assessed skills and experience.
Working Hours, Office Attendance and Travel Requirements: Full‑time: 37 hours per week. Minimum 30 hours per week for part‑time if required. This role is suitable for hybrid working. Minimum 60% of working time per month is expected at the designated workplace or other approved office locations.
