Location: London

MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to harm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing, and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt these threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and guidance to government, businesses and other organisations about how to keep themselves safe. A role in MI5 means you'll do unique and challenging work in a supportive and encouraging environment, making a real difference to UK national security.

Our business analyst roles are aligned and assessed against the Government Digital and Data Profession Capability framework (DDPCF), formerly known as DDaT. You will work in areas across MI5 including Technical, Corporate and Operational delivery areas, applying structured business analysis approaches to support our key transformational challenges in areas such as Cloud, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber to help our organisation continue to operate in a digital age.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse data and information relating to business goals, objectives, functions and processes.
  • Define requirements to improve processes, systems and services.
  • Conduct options analysis, assess feasibility and operational impact, quantify potential business benefits and contribute to business case development.
  • Ensure solutions align with the vision, objectives, business and user needs and provide the expected benefits and outcomes.
  • Enable all or part of the business to make informed, strategic and tactical decisions.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders; understand, document and prioritise their requirements; communicate solutions clearly to diverse audiences.

Person specification / Qualifications

  • You’ll have some training in either business analysis or change management.
  • You might be working towards recognised BA certifications such as the British Computer Society (BCS) or International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA).
  • Experience applying structured methodologies to intricate business problems and identifying the right techniques to deliver practical solutions.
  • Experience using frameworks and tools to develop business models across multiple teams; ability to select appropriate tools and methods for the environment and deliver measurable benefits.
  • A track record of leading the analysis, design and implementation of business changes and evaluating their effectiveness, including process mapping and documenting as-is and to-be states.
  • Strong stakeholder management with an ability to communicate clearly to various audiences and keep stakeholders informed throughout.
