Salary: up to £350/day, depending on experience

Responsible for: Teaching on our higher level digital apprenticeships (Level 4+)

Reports to: Programme Delivery Manager

Works closely with: Programme Delivery Manager, Skills Coach, Curriculum Lead, apprentices, and employer partners

Location/travel: Delivery based in Circle Square, Manchester

Start date: Ad Hoc Delivery required from 30th March

The opportunity: Manchester Digital is looking for an experienced, motivated Software Developer Technical Trainer with strong Java expertise to support delivery on our Level 4 Software Developer apprenticeship programme and above. This is a contract opportunity ideal for someone with industry experience who is passionate about developing emerging talent and delivering high-quality, employer-led technical training. The post holder will be required to deliver engaging and interactive teaching aligned to apprenticeship standards. All content and delivery must meet the needs of both employers and apprentices, in line with Manchester Digital policies and the requirements of Ofsted, ESFA, and relevant awarding organisations.

Main responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality training sessions in software development (Java-focused) aligned to Level 4+ apprenticeship standards
  • Design and deliver engaging and interactive learning units (face-to-face and remote delivery)
  • Adapt teaching and materials to meet a range of learner abilities and starting points
  • Develop and maintain high-quality curriculum resources informed by industry needs
  • Create and mark assessments that prepare apprentices for End Point Assessment
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and support apprentices to progress successfully
  • Maintain accurate learner records using Manchester Digital systems/LMS
  • Work collaboratively with the apprenticeship delivery team to ensure individualised learner support
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment

Other responsibilities:

  • Contribute to curriculum review, Quality Improvement Plans (QIP) and Self-Assessment Reports (SAR)
  • Support apprenticeship information sessions, outreach, and wider organisational projects as required
  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with industry and educational changes
  • Support delivery of Manchester Digital’s annual Digital Skills Festival where appropriate

Person specification:

  • Industry experience in software development (Java preferred)
  • Strong technical proficiency in Java and modern software development practices
  • Experience delivering training, teaching, mentoring, or skills development
  • Ability to design and deliver structured learning sessions
  • Experience of assessment and providing learner feedback
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Ability to communicate effectively with learners and employers
  • Passion for developing people and supporting diverse learner journeys
  • Commitment to inclusive learning environments
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship standards and End Point Assessment
  • Experience using remote learning platforms and digital teaching tools
  • Commercial understanding of employer-led training needs
