As a Lead Technical Architect, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering the technology that supports customer‑facing and internal services at scale. This senior, influential role allows you to shape DVLA’s future direction through architectural decisions.

About the Role

You’ll work within DVLA’s IT Services (ITS) Directorate, collaborating across engineering squads, architects and technical leads, and business directorates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design of systems and services, justifying and communicating architectural decisions.
  • Assure solution quality and align with DVLA, DfT and government‑wide strategies.
  • Explore opportunities for cross‑government architectural alignment.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering squads to transition new solutions into live operation.
  • Set standards and provide architectural governance and assurance.
  • Mentor and support architects and engineers across teams.
  • Provide leadership to the wider architecture community.
  • Line manage and develop colleagues.
