MCA Food technician apprentice - September 2026

You’ll learn on the job, working alongside experienced colleagues across both our Food Technology department and school catering provision.

Rather than expecting you to arrive with all the skills, we’ll help you develop them. You’ll gain practical experience supporting Food Technology lessons, preparing ingredients and equipment, maintaining food preparation areas and helping pupils enjoy practical food education. You’ll also spend time supporting our catering team and learning how a busy school food service operates.

About the role

Supporting Food Technology

You’ll learn how to:

• prepare ingredients, equipment and work areas ready for practical Food Technology
• lessons;
• weigh, measure and portion ingredients;
• set up equipment and resources before lessons;
• support the smooth running of practical cooking sessions;
• assist teachers and pupils during practical activities where appropriate;
• clear down and prepare the room between lessons;
• clean and maintain equipment and food preparation areas;
• safely store ingredients and equipment;
• monitor ingredients and help maintain appropriate stock levels;
• receive and put away food deliveries;
• help reduce waste and make effective use of ingredients;
• follow food hygiene, allergen and health and safety procedures; and
• help create a safe, organised and welcoming environment in which pupils can learn about food.

This role will be offered as a full time (35 hours per week). Term time only. The employment will be on a fixed term basis for 18 months (apprenticeship length)
