The Role
Are you passionate about developing elite young athletes and driving performance excellence? Manchester City Football Club is seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Physical Performance Coach to lead the delivery of world-class support for our U16 Academy squad. Reporting to the Head of Physical Performance – Academy, this pivotal role involves designing and implementing individualised physical development plans, using data-led profiling and performance monitoring to prepare players for the demands of professional football. As a key member of the Academy Performance Services team, you\’ll contribute to our holistic player development strategy within one of the Premier League’s leading Category 1 academies.

Your Impact
- Plan, deliver, and regularly review individual physical development programmes for U16 players, ensuring each has a clear and targeted plan aligned with their goals.
- Lead age group physical performance support on and off the pitch, working closely with coaches to prepare players for the demands of the modern game.
- Oversee physical profiling and ongoing monitoring, sharing progress updates with key stakeholders.
- Implement player monitoring systems to track performance, development, and workload, helping to guide decision-making within the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Build strong working relationships across departments, contributing to a collaborative and high-performance environment in line with Academy values.
- Support the delivery of fuelling and hydration strategies in partnership with Academy Nutrition staff.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the Academy’s wider physical performance strategy across all age groups.
What we are looking for
- Undergraduate & Postgraduate degree in related field
- UKSCA accreditation or equivalent
- Significant experience of delivery physical performance support to achieve objective outcomes in performance sport.
- Previous experience in delivering physical performance support in an elite football academy.
- Current FA safeguarding and emergency aid certifications.
- Understanding of growth & maturation related influence on physical development & injury risk.
- Committed and open-minded individual who is proactive enjoys the challenge of working with diverse teams of experts with humility
- Enthusiasm and willingness to be flexible
- Remain calm under pressure
- Willing to self-evaluate and work towards continuous improvement
- BASES accreditation or currently engaged in achieving accredited status.
- Previous experience of delivery physical performance support in elite high-performance sport outside of football.
