Manchester City Football Club is a Premier League club with a long history rooted in Manchester. We are looking for a driven practitioner to lead the planning, delivery, and review of tailored physical development programmes for the Elite Development Squad (U21), ensuring each player has an individualised training plan underpinned by objective profiling and clear physical targets. You will work closely with EDS coaches, Academy leaders, and First Team staff to ensure seamless player transitions between squads and to maximise potential.

You will also contribute to the wider physical performance strategy, supporting U21 squad delivery and collaborating on Academy-wide initiatives. As a key member of the Academy Physical Performance team, you will help shape and implement best-in-class practices while ensuring full compliance with Premier League Category 1 Academy standards.

Your Impact

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and review of individual physical development support to identified Elite Development Squad (U21) players, ensuring each player has individual physical priorities and integrated developmental training plans driven by objective profiling with clear targets.
  • Collaborate with age group coaches and practitioners to plan, deliver, and review the EDS programme with on- and off-pitch physical training support focused on maximising physical potential and preparation for the demands of top-level football.
  • Work with the PDP Physical Performance Coach – U21 to implement physical profiling and monitor physical qualities against prioritised targets within the U21 group; report progress to key stakeholders at regular intervals.
  • Implement player monitoring systems (performance, development, workload, and response) and generate insights to inform U21 MDT decision making and player management.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with the wider MDT (performance, coaching, operations, player support) and uphold MCFC Academy standards and behaviours.
  • Collaborate with Lead & Assistant Academy Performance Nutritionists to support practical fuelling and hydration strategies as required.
  • Support the ongoing development and implementation of the MCFC Academy Performance strategy and best practice across the academy.

What we are looking for

  • Significant experience delivering physical performance support to teams and individuals to achieve objective outcomes in performance sport.
  • Experience delivering physical performance support in elite high-performance sport outside of football.
  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree in a related field.
  • UKSCA accreditation or equivalent; BASES accreditation or currently engaged in achieving accredited status.
  • Current FA safeguarding and emergency aid certifications.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to be flexible.
  • Understanding of growth and maturation related influence on physical development and injury risk.
