The Role

The PDP Physical Performance Coach will deliver integrated physical performance support on and off pitch to maximise individual physical development while supporting optimal team preparation to perform. Aligned to the Manchester City Academy Physical Performance approach and Academy Performance Services strategy, you will work collaboratively as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team prioritising the design and delivery of physical training programmes to individuals targeted to achieve objective physical goals in support of aligned clear performance outcomes.

Your Impact

  • To lead the planning, delivery and review of individual physical development support to targeted PDP age group players, ensuring that each player’s individual physical priorities and integrated individualised developmental training plans, driven by objective profiling with clear priority physical targets.
  • Working collaboratively with PDP age group coaches and practitioners, contribute to the planning, delivery, and review of programmes with on and off‑pitch physical development support focussing on maximising physical potential and preparation for the demands of the highest level of the game.
  • Working in partnership with other PDP Physical Performance Coaches to ensure implementation of physical profiling and ongoing monitoring of physical qualities against prioritised targets within the group, reporting to key stakeholders on the physical performance progress of the team and individuals at regular and appropriate intervals.
  • Ensure the implementation of player monitoring systems (performance, development, workload, and response), generating insights that are used to inform MDT decision making and player management on an ongoing basis.
  • Work with a collaborative integrated approach, maintain strong and effective working relationships with the wider MDT (Coaching, Performance Services, Operations, player support), including the role modelling and upholding of the MCFC Academy standards and behaviours.
  • Work collaboratively with the Academy Performance Nutritionists to support the practical implementation of fuelling and hydration strategies as required in line with the Academy Performance strategy.
  • As an important member of the Academy Physical Performance team, proactively support the ongoing development and implementation of the MCFC Academy Performance strategy and best practice implementation of physical performance support across the academy.

What we are looking for

  • Significant experience of delivering physical performance support to teams/individuals to achieve objective outcomes in elite high‑performance sport
  • Experience of working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary support team in elite sport
  • Experienced in the writing and delivery of strength & conditioning programmes focussed on specific adaptations to achieve targeted physical change.
  • Undergraduate & Postgraduate degree in related field
  • UKSCA accreditation or equivalent
  • Current FA safeguarding and emergency aid certifications.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in problem solving and working practices
  • Previous experience of delivering physical performance support in elite football at Senior or Academy level
  • Understanding of growth & maturation related influence on physical development & injury risk
  • BASES accreditation or currently engaged in achieving accredited status
  • UEFA B Licence
