The Visitor Information Manager plays a vital role in achieving Manchester City Council's ambition to deliver excellent customer service, support the city's visitor economy and promote Manchester as a welcoming, vibrant destination. Based within Manchester Central Library, one of the city's leading cultural attractions, the role provides operational leadership for the Visitor Information Centre, ensuring residents, visitors and tourists receive a high-quality, knowledgeable and professional service.

The post directly contributes to service success by:

  • Leading and developing staff
  • Strengthening partnerships with tourism and cultural organisations
  • Driving commercial and retail opportunities
  • Continually improving the visitor experience

By ensuring the Visitor Information Centre remains a trusted gateway to Manchester, the role helps enhance the city's reputation, supports economic growth, generates income opportunities and connects people with the rich cultural, leisure and heritage offer available across the city.

Essential requirements for the role:

  • Proven staff line management experience in a retail or tourism related environment.
  • Flexibility to work unsocial hours, including weekends and evenings to meet the needs of the service.
  • Experience and understanding of delivering excellent customer service.
  • Excellent digital and ICT skills across a range of packages, knowledge of their use in the development of service areas.

Desirable requirements that would be beneficial in this role:

  • Experience of working with partners to enhance the service.
  • Experience of library stock management and associated systems.
