The Community Safety Team (CST) plays a vital role in helping residents feel safe, supported and secure within their homes and communities. As a Domestic Abuse Caseworker, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of some of Manchester's most vulnerable residents by providing specialist support to those experiencing domestic abuse. Working at the heart of a multi-agency partnership network, you will help individuals and families navigate difficult situations, reduce risk and access the support they need to rebuild their lives. This is a rewarding role that combines safeguarding, housing management and partnership working to improve outcomes for residents across the city. You will play a key part in ensuring victims are listened to, protected and supported, while helping Manchester City Council deliver on its commitment to creating safer neighbourhoods and stronger communities. The successful candidate will:
- Join a team of dedicated colleagues committed to protecting residents, reducing harm and delivering positive outcomes for people affected by domestic abuse.
- Lead on the management of domestic abuse cases received by Housing Services, ensuring victims receive timely and effective support.
- Undertake risk assessments and develop robust safety plans that place the victim's needs and wishes at the centre of decision-making.
- Coordinate support and interventions with a wide range of statutory, voluntary and community sector partners.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are identified, appropriately managed and escalated where necessary.
- Apply a trauma-informed and victim-centred approach throughout all aspects of case management.
- Work collaboratively with housing colleagues, social care services, health professionals, Greater Manchester Police and specialist domestic abuse organisations to deliver coordinated support.
- Support residents to improve their safety, wellbeing and long-term stability through effective intervention and partnership working.
- Use sound professional judgement to manage complex situations, balance risk and identify practical solutions.
- Contribute directly to the Community Safety Team's objective of creating safer communities and supporting residents to live free from abuse and harm.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience supporting vulnerable individuals, including those affected by domestic abuse, safeguarding concerns or other complex needs.
- Experience assessing risk and implementing effective support plans.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with residents and partner agencies.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload, prioritise work effectively and maintain accurate records.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in complex situations.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and case management systems.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced DBS check.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience working within domestic abuse, housing, safeguarding, community safety or a related field.
- Experience of multi-agency working, including attendance at MARAC, safeguarding or similar meetings.
- Knowledge of domestic abuse legislation, safeguarding procedures and trauma-informed practice.
- Experience using housing management systems such as QL.
- A relevant qualification or evidence of continuing professional development in a related discipline.
