Responsibilities:

  • Attend meetings with various sub contractors or the client to discuss programme, delays and costs.
  • Work with sub contractors or clients to resolve issues with ongoing projects.
  • Work alongside quantity surveyors to discuss quantity take‑offs, variations and orders.
  • Work alongside the site manager, helping to coordinate projects on‑site.
  • Regular site visits for progress checks on construction projects.
  • Produce drawings/plans on software such as Revit.
  • Produce client documents such as stage 1 reports using Adobe software (InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop).
  • Attend partnership, recruitment or other events that help to promote partners and the programme.
  • Assist with essential building tasks – planning, designing and project management; analysing client requirements; developing detailed designs; risk assessment of design solutions; managing projects; interpreting and comparing performance information to choose compliant materials, components and parts.
  • Select and use technical literature and other sources of information and data.
  • Produce design and technical drawings, designs and models using analytical and computer‑based software packages.
  • Produce technical design solutions.
  • Comply with industry standards, CDM, statutory regulation and legislation, policies and codes of practice.
  • Comply with health, safety and welfare regulations, standards and guidance.
  • Complete risk assessments to identify, evaluate and mitigate risk.
  • Apply principles of sustainable development and assess impact.
  • Apply ethical and data security principles to design projects.
  • Prepare written design reports.
  • Interact with the operation and maintenance of a Common Data Environment (CDE) and ensure integrity and protocol, including data security.
  • Handle information – validating, managing, disseminating and storing throughout all stages of a project or asset.
  • Identify design defects and solve problems to advise a compliant outcome, escalating issues or concerns.
  • Apply quality assurance techniques.
  • Use computer‑based software systems and packages to manage construction projects, e.g. BIM tools, data analytics and databases.
  • Conduct site inspections of designs and report findings.
  • Comply with sustainability regulations, standards and guidance, including waste management and designing out waste.
  • Optimise energy use through design of an efficient fabric, passive and active design solutions, low‑energy lighting, building controls and energy performance.
  • Optimise site potential and building space.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector‑specific terminology.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply project management techniques: project budgets, estimating, cost control, cost forecasting and investment appraisal.
  • Interpret and extract relevant information from drawings, specifications and work instructions, including BIM and other task‑specific modelling software.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE in: English (grade 4‑9)
  • GCSE in: Maths (grade 4‑9)
  • GCSE in: Science (grade 4‑9)
  • A Level: You will need 3 A Levels (or equivalent Level 3) (grade A‑C)
  • BTEC: BTEC Extended Diploma (or A Level equivalent) (grade Merit/Distinction)

If you are successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to take part in our Assessment Centre. Subject to successful completion of the assessments, you will then be invited to a formal interview with a panel of employers.

We're recruiting for PlanBEE Manchester. Develop your knowledge in building design and construction while working in several different companies. You'll need to have a passion for design, construction and leadership, be analytical, methodical and good at solving problems, as well as articulate, driven and a fast learner.

Wage: Check minimum wage rates (opens in new tab) With a starting salary of circa £24,500 per year, you'll also benefit from a pension plan and a generous annual holiday entitlement.

Training course: Construction design and build technician (level 4) – Hours: Monday to Friday (30 minute lunch break). Exact shifts to be confirmed. 37 hours a week. Start date: Monday 14 September 2026. Duration: 2 years.
