Manchester Adult Education has an exciting opportunity for a passionate Casual Lecturer to join our Digital Skills, Computing and IT team. The role will involve the planning, delivery, assessment and moderation of part time adult courses from Level 1-3, specifically in specialist areas such as project management, programming, cybersecurity, networking, website design and digital marketing.

References & Qualifications:

  • 2 references (3 years history where possible)
  • GCSE A*-C / 9-4 in English or equivalent (essential)
  • GCSE A*-C / 9-4 in Maths or equivalent (essential)
  • Level 5 teaching qualification; willing to work towards L5 or an L3 Award in Education and Training

Casual Car Documentation: The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User; car journeys may be necessary on occasion but are not essential. If you drive, you must hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car and relevant documentation for work.

DBS Disclosure: This post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced DBS check. Information provided will be treated confidentially in line with DBS Code of Practice.

Courses Within the Curriculum:

  • Digital Skills, Computing and IT courses from Level 1-3 in specialist areas
  • Other Courses Within The Curriculum Include: Skill Up drop in workshops (non accredited); Digital Skills for Beginners (non accredited); Microsoft for Work (non accredited); Essential Digital Skills (accredited - Exam Based); Level 2 Award in Digital and IT Skills (accredited - portfolio based)

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deliver teaching and learning to a consistently good or outstanding standard
  • Assess learners’ work accurately, formatively and summatively against awarding body criteria and course targets
  • Take course leadership responsibilities
  • Participate in team meetings and working groups
  • Comply with service quality assurance procedures and policies
  • Keep up to date in the subject area
  • Join a committed and supportive team to help adult learners improve digital skills to secure employment or progress to higher education
  • This is a casual role teaching daytimes and evening sessions

As a Lecturer You Should:

  • Have a track record of delivering IT courses to varying levels
  • Hold GCSE English and Maths at A*-C / 9-4 or equivalent (essential)
  • Hold a teaching qualification, ideally Level 5, or willingness to work towards
  • Commit to developing your teaching skills and qualifications
  • Newly or recently qualified teachers are welcome

Capabilities & Requirements:

  • Professional and academic competence/qualifications to teach on the courses
  • Experience with a range of teaching and learning strategies
  • Familiarity with e-learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom) or willingness to learn
  • Flexible approach with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and develop adult learners and role model desired learner attributes
