Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective housing management services and maintain high standards of accommodation for homeless households.
  • Collaborate with tenants and their support workers to address housing-related matters constructively.
  • Work proactively within the team to support service goals and improve outcomes.
  • Share relevant information with colleagues and services to support referral assessments.
  • Monitor tenant compliance with occupancy agreements, house rules, and court orders, and take timely action when necessary.
  • Manage and maximise the collection of rent, utility charges, and other fees; maintain accurate records and report regularly to the Deputy Team Leader.
  • Track Housing Benefit claims and liaise with support workers and Manchester Revenue and Benefits Unit to ensure tenants receive appropriate guidance.
  • Oversee tenancy processes including initiation, management, and termination, and administer Notices to Quit as required.
  • Support tenants and their support workers in tenancy-related planning and decision-making.
  • Coordinate day-to-day repairs, prioritise re-lets, and manage the upkeep of furnishings in consultation with the team and partner services.
  • Promote tenant inclusion, empowerment, and participation in service delivery and community engagement.
  • Champion equality, diversity, and accessibility in all aspects of service provision.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to ensure cohesive support planning and service delivery.
  • Welcome new tenants and complete the letting process when required.
  • Maintain clear, professional, and auditable records in line with City Council procedures and financial regulations (training provided).
  • Ensure the health and safety of service users, colleagues, and yourself by adhering to established procedures and managing risks effectively.
  • Contribute to service promotion and performance monitoring.
  • Provide timely and accurate performance reports to the Deputy Team Leader.
  • Engage in personal development and take full advantage of supervision and training opportunities.
  • Uphold City Council policies and actively participate in service improvement initiatives.

Experience

We would love to hear from you if you have experience of:

  • An understanding of the causes and effects of homelessness, and the problems faced by homeless people
  • Ability to work jointly and co-operatively with support workers, service users and other agencies in order to address occupancy issues and help plan support provision.
  • Experience of working with homeless people or working with other vulnerable groups or working in a residential setting.
  • An accountable and responsible team member able to organise, prioritise, take the initiative, work unsupervised and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, explain and implement various policies, initiatives and legislation.
  • Willingness to comply with City Council policies, including Equal Opportunities Policy, Dignity at Work Policy and No Smoking Policy.
  • Must comply with Manchester City Council’s service standards including the Staff Appearance standard and promote customer service or quality initiatives
  • Must consent to and apply for an enhanced DBS check

The experience below would be beneficial but is not essential:

  • Ability to collate information and data into reports to assist the team’s performance management.
  • Basic Information Technology skills. A basic standard of numeracy, consistent with the ability to calculate rent account balances for example.
