About The Role: Reporting to the Energy Sector Managing Director, the Technical Director – Energy Services is a key senior leadership role within OCS Energy Services. The role is responsible for the development and delivery of projects within the energy centre and district heating sectors. The role will play a central part in growing OCS Energy Services, shaping and delivering a differentiated energy services proposition within the energy transition sector and the UK FM sector and supporting customers through the energy transition.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Technical, Commercial and Operational Leadership: Lead the technical and commercial development of OCS Energy Services’ energy centre and district heating solutions, supporting public and private sector decarbonisation programmes. Oversee the design and delivery of energy centres, including CHP replacement, heat networks, heat pumps, thermal storage and future-ready technologies. Develop scalable, repeatable technical solutions to support district heating and heat network opportunities. Act as senior technical authority for energy centre projects, ensuring compliance (incl. heat network regulations), technical standards and best practice. Build strong relationships with developers, local authorities, utilities and strategic partners to support direct-to-market energy centre opportunities.
- Bids, Tenders & Investment Support: Oversee bid and tender responses working closely with technical (including 3rd party) and commercial teams to shape winning strategies for complex energy projects. Lead solution design and coordinate input and bid preparation from technical and operational teams. Provide senior technical and commercial input into bids, tenders and investment cases. Support pricing, financial modelling and investment appraisal for energy centre and District Heating projects.
- Project Delivery & Operational Performance: Provide senior technical oversight of project delivery from financial close through construction, commissioning and handover. Support project delivery ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to required quality standards. Oversee operational performance of energy assets and long-term service contracts, driving reliability and efficiency. Embed robust governance, reporting and performance management across all projects and operations.
- Commercial Management: Support budgeting, forecasting, margin performance and cost control throughout the project development and delivery phases. Support commercial structuring of energy services and energy centre projects, including EPC, ESCO, asset-backed and performance-based models. Ensure effective commercial risk management throughout bid, delivery and operational phases.
- Team leadership and capability development: Lead, develop and inspire a multidisciplinary team including energy, mechanical and electrical engineers, project delivery and operational staff. Set clear objectives, performance standards and development plans aligned to business goals. Build organisational capability to support growth across energy services, energy centres and renewables. Foster a strong safety, quality and continuous improvement culture.
- Internal Collaboration: Work collaboratively with FM operations, commercial, legal, finance and procurement teams. Act as a key senior stakeholder across OCS to integrate energy services into wider FM propositions. Support knowledge sharing and best practice across the group.
- Strategy, Growth and Market Development: Play a key role in defining and evolving the OCS Energy Services strategy and market proposition. Identify emerging technologies, market trends and regulatory developments relevant to energy transition and FM customers. Support the development of innovative delivery models and long-term customer partnerships.
- Customer & Market Engagement: Act as a senior technical and commercial interface with key customers and strategic partners. Build trusted relationships with customers, supply chain partners and technology providers. Represent OCS Energy Services in industry forums as required.
Skills, Experience and Attributes:
- Significant senior leadership experience within energy services, energy infrastructure, ESCOs or related sectors.
- Strong technical background in energy systems, mechanical and/or electrical engineering, energy centres and renewables.
- Proven experience delivering complex energy and carbon reduction projects within built environment contexts.
- Demonstrable commercial management experience.
- Strong understanding of commercial models, funding mechanisms and performance-based energy contracts.
- Ability to balance technical excellence with commercial pragmatism.
- Experienced leader of multidisciplinary technical and operational teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior customer and board level.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate strategy into executable plans.
- Strong governance, risk management and quality orientation.
- Clear, confident and credible communicator with high standards of written and verbal communication.
