About The Role
- Key Responsibilities
- Water System Maintenance and Monitoring
- Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and disinfection of hot and cold-water systems, including storage tanks, calorifiers, and associated pipework, in line with HSG274 Part 2 and L8 ACOP.
- Perform temperature checks on hot and cold-water systems to ensure compliance with recommended ranges (e.g., hot water above 50°C, cold water below 20°C) to minimize Legionella risk.
- Carry out water sampling, testing, and analysis for bacterial contamination, including Legionella, and interpret results to recommend remedial actions.
- Risk Assessments and Compliance
- Assist in the completion of Legionella risk assessments for hot and cold-water systems, identifying potential hazards and implementing control measures as per HSG274 Part 2.
- Ensure all work adheres to current UK regulations, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and the Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems (L8 ACOP).
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports of all inspections, tests, and remedial works for audit and compliance purposes.
- Remedial and Installation Work
- Carry out remedial actions, such as descaling, flushing, and chlorination of water systems, to address identified issues and maintain water quality.
- Install, repair, and maintain water system components, including TMVs, pumps, and pipework, to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
- Respond to emergency callouts to address water hygiene issues promptly and effectively.
- Client Interaction and Communication
- Liaise with clients to explain findings, provide recommendations, and ensure understanding of water hygiene obligations under HSG274 Part 2.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, always maintaining professionalism and a positive representation of the company.
- Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Lead by example in promoting and maintaining excellent health and safety practices across all work activities.
- Ensure compliance with current Health & Safety legislation and OCS policies, always maintaining a safe working environment.
- Quality & safety standards: Ensure that all equipment and work areas meet agreed health, safety, and quality standards, with all tasks delivered in accordance with Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS) and Construction Phase Plans (CPP).
- Safety documentation: Oversee the completion of risk assessments, method statements, and toolbox talks, ensuring all safety protocols are followed effectively.
- Essential Hiring Criteria
- Proven experience as a Water Hygiene Engineer or similar role, with specific knowledge of hot and cold-water systems and Legionella control.
- Strong understanding of HSG274 Part 2, L8 ACOP, and relevant UK water hygiene regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to conduct water sampling, temperature monitoring, and basic water quality testing.
- Practical skills in cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of water systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for client interaction and report writing.
- Full UK driving licence (travel to various client sites required).
- A willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and out-of-hours callouts.
- Desirable
- Relevant qualifications, such as City & Guilds Legionella Control in Hot and Cold-Water Systems, or equivalent water hygiene training.
- Experience with thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) installation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of COSHH and safe handling of water treatment chemicals.
