About The Role
Days of Working: Typically Monday - Friday but this is a 7 day a week operation, so some flexibility around operational requirements may be required. You will be working on the SLaM contract, which includes Bethlem Royal Hospital, Lambeth Hospital, Lewisham Hospital and Maudesley Hospital.
We’re proud to be recruiting for a Dietician to support the mobilisation of our new contract with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM). The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe, inclusive, and therapeutic food provision, working closely with catering teams, clinical staff, and service users to deliver high standards of care and compliance. As part of your role, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities
- Provide standard recipe analysis and development using computerised dietary analysis and catering information technology systems, including maintaining a data base of standard recipes
- Ascribe and / or check dietary coding of dishes and food items offered by catering services, which may include vending machines and retail outlets
- Development of standard recipes and menus in partnership with the catering manager and client dietitian involving regular review of menus
- Ensure that all normal nutrition and therapeutic diets required can be safely supplied to service users in a timely manner, with appropriate choice, meeting of both dietary and personal needs
- Support in development of food related information appropriate to service user needs which may include pictorial or non-English language menus and food information.
Liaison
- Act as a source of nutritional and catering related dietetic expertise
- Establish and maintain contact with national catering and relevant dietetic groups to ensure current best practice in catering dietetics and awareness of key guidance
- Monitoring
- Take a lead in auditing and monitoring compliance with catering and other food related standards, policies, legislation, guidance and the contract specifications, which may involve observing meal times
- To partner the catering manager in ward based spot checks to measure portion sizes, observe food service, the dining environment and assess service user mealtime experience.
- Take an active role in ensuring that the contract achieves the appropriate standards in audits such as PLACE and CQC outcome 5 (or equivalent)
Training
- Ensure that all staff involved in food provision are appropriately trained in nutrition and feeding practices
- Work closely with chefs and other catering staff to support them in the production of foods that meet the needs of the service users including the provision of therapeutic diets
- Production or sourcing of any necessary nutrition related training
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Must have Right to Work in the UK.
- A willingness to go through DBS checks if successful in this role.
- BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant degree and post graduate diploma in Dietetics
- Health and Care Professions Council registration in Dietetics
- Full member British Dietetic Association (desirable)
