About the Role

Days of Working: This position is based at University of Sussex, Brighton, working Monday-Friday 07:00-15:00pm. We are looking for a dependable and detail‑oriented PAT Tester to join our team at the University of Sussex. This role involves carrying out Portable Appliance Testing across campus facilities, ensuring all electrical equipment meets current safety standards. The position also includes supporting building operations through quarterly meter readings and maintaining accurate compliance records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) to ensure compliance with current electrical safety standards.
  • Perform quality assurance checks to identify faults, defects, or potential safety risks in electrical appliances.
  • Analyse test results and accurately document findings in line with compliance requirements.
  • Provide clear and professional communication to stakeholders, explaining test results and recommending corrective actions where needed.
  • Maintain and care for all testing equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Complete quarterly meter readings across designated campus buildings and record data accurately.
  • Work independently across multiple sites within the university estate, managing workload efficiently.
  • Ensure all work complies with current health & safety regulations and electrical safety best practices.
  • Stay up to date with industry standards, guidance, and legislative changes relating to PAT testing and electrical safety.
  • Maintain a high standard of record keeping and reporting for audit and compliance purposes.

What We’re Looking For

  • Must have Right to Work in the UK and willingness to undergo a DBS check.
  • Proven experience in PAT testing.
  • Relevant qualification such as: C&G 2377-77 (current) C&G 2377-32 / 2377-22 (legacy but acceptable) or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Basic IT skills (for recording results, certificates, etc.).

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer‑facing skills with a professional manner.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment / meeting new people.
