About The Role:

Days of Working: This position will be based at East Slope Reception, The University of Sussex, Brighton, working Mon-Fri 9.00am-5.00pm (30 min unpaid break).

The Housekeeping Supervisors are responsible for managing a team of Housekeepers/Janitors ensuring that cleaning requirements are delivered to the standards specified in the contract and that SEF policies and procedures are followed.

As part of your role, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and supervise a team of Housekeepers/Janitors to deliver scheduled cleaning to BICSs standards.
  • Monitor attendance, conduct audits, provide feedback, and take remedial action where standards are not met.
  • Maintain training records and support ongoing staff development.
  • Deliver regular communications, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and act as the main point of contact for staff concerns.
  • Resolve issues within the scope of the role and escalation others as needed.
  • Ensure all paperwork (reports, return to work, self-certification, holiday requests, training records, meeting notes) is completed accurately and on time.

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • Must have Right to Work in the UK and willingness to undertake a DBS.
  • Proven experience supervising a team of cleaners or janitors to meet contract or service standards.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements, with the ability to demonstrate safe practices in the workplace.
  • Ability to coach, motivate, and support staff to achieve high performance and maintain standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence, guide, and check the work of others.
  • Good organisational skills, including managing rotas, stock, paperwork, and adapting to changing priorities.
