About the Role
As Curriculum Area Leader for Design Technology, I lead a dynamic and innovative department encompassing Design Technology, Photography, and other technology-based disciplines. My role is focused on driving academic excellence, fostering a culture of high expectations, and ensuring outstanding outcomes for all students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Design Technology department, including performance management and professional development of staff.
- Champion high-quality teaching and learning through strategic planning, curriculum development, and data-driven improvement.
- Deliver engaging and effective lessons aligned with the United Learning DT curriculum and Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction.
- Mentor Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and trainees, supporting their growth and integration into the department.
- Monitor and evaluate teaching standards, using insights to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with SLT on curriculum innovation, including the introduction of alternative KS4 pathways such as Construction and 3D Art.
- Promote a positive learning environment that supports student progress, literacy, oracy, and personal development.
- Contribute to whole-school initiatives and uphold the ethos of “The Best in Everyone.”
What I Bring
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in a relevant subject area.
- Proven experience teaching Design Technology at KS3 and KS4, including GCSE and/or vocational qualifications.
- Strong understanding of pedagogy, assessment for learning, and cognitive science in education.
- A commitment to inclusive education and experience working with diverse student populations.
- Passion for curriculum leadership, innovation, and raising standards across the department.
