Hospital-Based SEND Education Provision Specialist Needs: PMLD / SLD / Complex Needs. Mana Education are proud to be working with a highly specialist education provision seeking an experienced and compassionate SEN English Teacher to join their dedicated team. This is a truly unique opportunity to make a profound difference to the lives of children and young people receiving medical care within a hospital environment.
The role would suit an empathetic, resilient and creative teacher who has strong experience supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD), ideally within a specialist school or hospital setting.
The Role
As an SEN English Teacher, you will provide tailored and engaging English education to pupils of varying ages and abilities who are unable to access mainstream education due to medical or complex needs. Teaching may take place:
- 1:1 at a pupil's bedside
- Within a specialist classroom environment
- Through highly personalised and adapted learning approaches
You will work closely with medical professionals and multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of education and emotional support for vulnerable learners during challenging periods in their lives.
Responsibilities Include:
- Planning and delivering engaging, personalised English lessons
- Adapting existing teaching resources to meet individual needs
- Supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD and complex SEND requirements
- Creating a safe, nurturing and encouraging learning environment
- Working collaboratively with healthcare professionals and families
- Maintaining high expectations whilst demonstrating patience and compassion
- Supporting pupils experiencing illness, trauma or difficult circumstances
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent teaching qualification
- Experience teaching English within SEND settings
- Strong knowledge of PMLD and SLD needs
- Experience within a special school or hospital education environment (desirable)
- A calm, resilient and flexible approach
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
