Quantitative Researcher - Algo Research

Man Group, a global alternative investment management firm, is seeking a Quantitative Researcher focused on futures to drive alpha generation across multiple asset classes.

Location: London, England, United Kingdom

Responsibilities

• Create high‑quality intraday predictive alpha signals in futures ranging from sub‑second to hours, using order‑book and alternative datasets.
• Apply machine‑learning techniques to alpha research.
• Conduct in‑depth market‑impact modelling.
• Solve optimal execution optimisation problems.
• Identify the highest P&L opportunities.
• Cowork with researchers across the Man Systematic team to maximise realised P&L.

Essential Qualifications

• Ability to think creatively and design innovative research ideas.
• Exceptional analytical skills, recognised as an expert in the domain.
• Deep understanding of statistics/ML and the ability to apply them to real‑world problems.
• Expertise in a high‑level programming language such as Python or R.

Advantageous Skills

• Knowledge of market structure, participants, trading venues and microstructure of at least one major asset class.
• Experience in intraday alpha research.
• Experience building ML models.
• Experience handling large datasets and tick data.

Personal Attributes

• PhD or exceptional Master’s/Bachelor’s qualification in a quantitative subject.
• Intellectual integrity with a keen analytical approach to problem solving.
• Ability to deliver projects with high commercial value.
• Hands‑on attitude; willingness to get involved across the firm.
• Self‑organised with the ability to manage time across multiple projects and competing demands.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with researchers, technologists, traders and senior business people.
• Confident communicator who can argue a point concisely and handle conflicting views positively.
