The Middle Office team is responsible for:
- Security pricing controls
- NAV (Net Asset Valuation) calculations
- Fee modelling
- Portfolio rebalancing across Feeder/Master/Multi Book structures
- Setting trading levels and instructing FX hedges related to client capital flows
The team also develops tools and reporting solutions, widely used across the firm, primarily using Python, Excel, and internal databases to deliver critical reporting and analytics.
The apprentice role will support the team across multiple areas of this work, with opportunity to develop and use technical and problem-solving skills through operating processes and project work.
Key responsibilities include:
- Using the firm’s systems and other available tools (Bloomberg, vendor data etc.) to review and analyse fund profit and loss accounts across asset classes.
- Reviewing accuracy of fund profit and loss at security level using risk-based measures.
- Utilising in-house technology, Python, Confluence, Excel, and other applications to deliver efficient solutions to improve or deliver new metrics and visualisation of both reporting and control processes.
- Calculating Net Asset Value (NAV) of funds including complex management and performance fee calculations.
- Liaising with the fund administrator/s to reconcile final fund NAVs.
- Implementing the Fund rebalance instructions, ensuring correct application of parameters to give clients correct target exposures and maintain appropriate cash levels.
- Supporting the setup of new funds and investment structures within the team’s processes.
- Reviewing foreign exchange exposures and instructing hedges required from capital inflows and outflows.
- Reviewing reconciliations between Custodians, Prime brokers, and the investment engine’s internal records, coordinating investigation and/or correction of breaking items where required.
- Supporting queries relating to fund accounting data and fund performance.
- Reviewing existing processes, procedures, and systems then proposing, agreeing, and implementing improvements.
Required skills:
- Strong mathematical, statistical, and computing skills.
- Practical programming experience or a strong interest to learn in Python, Git, VBA, SQL.
- A team player, who is also comfortable taking individual ownership.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively with more senior colleagues.
