We are now seeking an experienced and partnership-driven Academic Manager. The Academic Manager will play a central role in the delivery and growth of the NCUK IFY programme at Malvern House London, having overall responsibility for all aspects of academic quality and teaching delivery, including the effective management and development of teaching and resources, excellent student experience, and motivational staff leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective and efficient delivery and management of high-quality teaching and learning to give students the best opportunity to maximise their academic potential and progress to their choice of university, including the management of systems, structures, and processes to work effectively in line with legal requirements, corporate requirements, and budget.
  • Ensure that all necessary strategies, policies, and procedures are in place to assess and report on student performance and progression, including leading a comprehensive University counselling programme.
  • Develop, lead, and optimally co-ordinate teaching programmes and teaching resources, with particular reference to curriculum review, timetabling, assessments, and staff deployment to maximise student progression and satisfaction.
  • Liaise with NCUK and Malvern House colleagues on all aspects of validation and accreditation processes, ensuring QA policies are followed to maintain educational oversight.
  • Lead the NCUK IFY programme to maintain student attainment and progression metrics in line with sector expectations.

Staff Leadership and Management:

  • Develop a strong, cohesive, and productive Academic Team, whose members have clear roles and responsibilities within a positive work environment, and high expectations of performance, by overseeing the recruitment, management, development, and retention of high calibre and competent employees.
  • Provide staff with ongoing leadership and guidance regarding programme goals, curriculum, materials, and methodology.
  • Manage the process of class observations and teaching development, together with appropriate CPD opportunities, ensuring these are carried out regularly.
  • Promote a collaborative working environment to maintain and enhance the quality of the student learning experience and the overall learning and teaching environment.
  • Regularly review own practice, set personal targets, and take responsibility for own personal development.

Key Relationships:

  • Liaise with other key academic colleagues in other Malvern International learning environments to share and develop best practice.
  • Effectively engage with NCUK colleagues and external examiners to ensure best practice is adopted in the development, delivery, and assessment of our programme, ensuring compliance with the NCUK regulatory framework.
  • Work collaboratively with the Malvern House London team, including the Centre Director and other staff to ensure the NCUK programme is aligned with other programmes offered at Malvern House London, and that students are supported effectively throughout their programme.
  • Liaise closely with Malvern International’s Global Sales team to effectively promote the programme and grow student numbers within it, and with agents and parents of prospective and current students.

Student Leadership and Pastoral Care:

  • Ensure the academic team provides the highest level of pastoral care, including acting as personal tutor to a diverse range of students.
  • Work with the Student Services team to support and promote the highest standards of welfare for students, with safeguarding being central to the team’s approach.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Academic qualification at post-graduate or equivalent level or relevant professional qualifications (Essential).
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience (Essential).
  • Minimum of three years education management experience (Essential).
  • The ability to contribute to integrated teaching and assessment across the curriculum.
  • An understanding of UK HE and the needs and requirements of international students.
  • An understanding and experience of International Foundation Programmes.
  • Experience of academic assessment and quality assurance standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrable cross-cultural awareness.
  • Strong leadership skills and a proven ability to lead, motivate, coach, and develop staff.
  • A commitment to teamwork, and a demonstrated ability to manage resources effectively, whether human or physical.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills including fluency in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • An ability to review assessments outside their discipline including formative and summative assessments.
  • Competence in the effective use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT).
  • Proven planning and organisational skills and an ability to take initiative within curriculum and policy objectives.
  • Financial competence.
  • A record of attention to detail, thoroughness, and fairness.
  • The ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, work under pressure, and, when necessary, with minimal resources.

Personal Attributes:

  • Experience working within higher education and familiarity with university structures and priorities.
  • Knowledge of international student recruitment markets and trends.
  • Previous success in managing partnerships or joint ventures.
  • Understanding of student welfare and support services, particularly for international students.

Salary - £44,975.95 per annum.
