The Wychavons Economic Development team delivers a wide range of business support and economic development services, including town centre and rural regeneration, commercial property investment, tourism, event and skills support. The team plays a crucial role in responding to economic challenges such as Covid, flooding and large-scale redundancies as well as taking advantage of new business opportunities. We work extensively with local businesses and communities as well as key stakeholders such as the Local Enterprise Partnership, County Council, Worcestershire Growth Hub, Job Centre Plus, colleges and local chambers of trade.

The team currently supports the delivery of a range of major business park developments (Worcester 6, Vale Park), The Pillar (a serviced office scheme), town centre and tourism investment programmes and a range of business and skills/training grants. Wychavon District Council commissioned the production of three Town Centre Investment Prospectuses, one each for Droitwich Spa, Evesham and Pershore. The prospectuses propose a 20-year vision for each town centre and feature a mix of physical redevelopment and perception projects. To support the delivery of the objectives within the prospectus documents, we have since helped create Place Boards to deliver our vision for each town centre.

Roles have been created within the Economic Development team to enable it to be better placed to respond to the new challenges and economic landscape facing our district. In supporting and driving economic growth in our three economic centres and our tourism and visitor economy across the district, the aim is to build on our successful record and to do so in a coordinated and strategic manner. We are currently looking for an experienced and driven individual to become the Place Projects Officer covering Pershore and Broadway.

You will have responsibility for promoting economic growth in the town and its surrounding areas under the supervision and coordination of the Place Projects Manager. You will be the council's lead day-to-day project officer on multiple physical development projects as well as tourism, marketing and events relevant to your area of responsibility. You will develop and support the Pershore Place Board and work with the chair and members to implement the annual action plan which prioritises projects relevant to the town and its economy.

About you

  • Have relevant experience working in an Economic Development, Tourism and/or Marketing role ideally in local government
  • Have proven experience of partnership working and delivering joint projects
  • Understand and have sensitivity to community leadership issues and have willingness to participate and lead on partnership/community focused initiatives on behalf of the Council.
  • Have demonstrable leadership skills and experience of managing relationships with stakeholders and diverse and potentially conflicting interests.
  • Be able to develop and motivate a diverse group of stakeholders and a diverse range of projects
  • Be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, members, staff and customers both verbally and in writing.

This role requires you to travel around the district, to areas where public transport is limited. A full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential or access to private travel arrangements.
