REPORTS TO: Barley Manager

DEPARTMENT: Production

LOCATION: Arbroath

HOURS: 8am to 4.30pm 4 days a week plus 6am – 4.30pm 1 day a week

Working times will vary and there will be a requirement to work 12 hour shifts both on Saturdays and Sundays to provide holiday and sickness cover for malt technicians, as necessary. 12 hour shifts (including nightshifts) will be required during the harvest period. No holidays can be taken during the busy harvest period.

Summary of Job

Responsible for maintaining a high standard of hygiene throughout the whole plant. Operation of barley drying equipment during harvest period. Shift relief as required during holidays and illness. The position further provides assistance to all on site personnel, as and when required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a high level of cleanliness throughout the whole Plant and grounds
  • Monitoring rundown screens to tractor trailer at Howard tank
  • Preparing and filling of export containers
  • Cleaning of jumbo bins and silos in preparation for fumigation and/or refilling
  • Clearing all rubbish to designated skips and recovery of as much usable product as possible
  • Assist Plant engineering department as and when required
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with the Plant work instructions
  • Ensure site compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation and associated external and internal standards for food safety and product quality
  • Remove culm from Buhler kiln or clean floor

Shift Relief

  • Holiday/Sickness cover for Malt Technicians
  • Production of malt or barley drying, as per the instructions from the maltings management. This includes the steeping, germination, kilning, and barley drying operations.
  • Transfer of barley from the barley bins into production as required.
  • Transfer kilned malt to the malt storage bins as required.
  • Complete all necessary records in accordance with the company quality standards
  • Assist Malt Technicians to dress malt and barley
  • Operate the Manitou/Drive company vehicle as necessary
